Selling a car to a recycler
Bring the signed title and your photo ID. A licensed recycler must get a properly assigned title (or other ownership document) for a vehicle it buys to dismantle, and must remove unexpired plates on receipt. Since January 1, 2026, a recycler can buy a vehicle without a title only if it is at least 13 years old and has not been registered for at least 7 years, and must report it to TxDMV within 24 hours.
